This is a surprisingly good recording of the singalong at John's 31'st birthday party. These aren't seperate tracks but rather one continuous track like a concert, with perhaps a couple of pauses edited out. John, Yoko, Phil Spector, Ringo Starr and many others all joined in. Some instrumentation is also present. One of the best songs is Yellow Submarine: John hushes everyone but Ringo when he sings his part, then everyone joins in the chorus. It's also interesting to hear John lead the group into Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey. So this is a great lennon album totally unspoiled by the Anthology.-

This is an interesting document of a moment. i mean, this ain't great music or anything, though it is quite funny. To the question of whether it's John:
the very drunk fool who seems to be leading all the songs is not John. You hear John oocasionally next to him, making more intelligent (and funny) comments, with a much more sonorous voice. John calls him Phil a few times, wihich I assumed to be be Spector, since he knew several songs from Imagine. After playing "Jealous Guy", someone complained that he should play songs that everyone knows. I guess the album hadn't come out yet...
When John speaks, there is no doubt it is he. Ringo's also there, and seems reluctantly willing to sing Yellow Submarine, but in classic Beatle tradion, has no idea how the verses go...
IF the singalong leader is indeed Phil Spector, it would explain why he was a producer, and not a performer himself. He sure knows how to boss people around, and his own voice is terrible.

Some of the tracks from this CD are available in the Lost Lennon Tapes Series. They're very entertainting to listen to, it makes you which that you were there at the time. they seem to be having a hell of a lot'a fun. Highly Recomended

If you ever wondered what it would be like to be a 70's Birthday party with some Rock and Roll royalty than this CD is for you. It's out of tune, sung out of key, and most of the words have been forgotten, but the people involved sure seem to be having a good time. It is certainly something you don't hear every day (them singing Yesterday, Uncle Albert, or Yellow Submarine) and for that reason alone is worth having. I gave it a seven, though, because the sound quality isn't wonderful and Lennon isn't as prominent as you'd think.

Enjoyable more for the historical value than any actual musical quality. And yes, they are having a lovely time.

The performances are crazy, but... man, I wish my birthdays were as awesome as this.
