This is the album that broke KISS and made them a household name. With quadruple platinum sales, Alive! sold more copies than anyone ever dreamed! Heralded by many as the best live album of all time, Rock and Roll All Nite (Live) was released as a single and the album began selling like mad.
Deuce opens Alive! with an energy that surpasses the original version on KISS. Deuce sets the pace for a fantastic hour-and-a-half of KISS at their best: LIVE! Firehouse whips up the crowd with the siren wailing at the end of the track; Parasite has never sounded rawer; and 100,000 Years allows Peter's drumming to shine. She gets a real kick in the ass having the end riff of Let Me Know tagged on, coupled with Ace's ripping solo. Paul's narrative and Peter's percussion gets the crowd whipped up for Cold Gin and it's a real hoot to revel in its 70's cheesiness. Closing with Let Me Go, Rock N Roll, Alive! leaves the listener wanting to hit rewind/repeat on his or her stereo to start all over again.
I'm not usually a fan of live albums but Alive! stands heads above the rest.

Interesting facts:

Alive! peaked on Billboard's chart at # 9.
Alive! wasn't expected to sell well because not only was it a live album, but a DOUBLE album as well (i.e. more expensive).
Alive! was recorded as a means to fulfill contractual obligations with Casablanca, the band's label. Because the first 3 albums sold poorly, Alive! would quicken the band's progress in fulfilling album quotas with Casablanca before moving to another label.
Alive! was also released as a result of KISS being dropped from tours because headliners were constantly being upstaged by the band.
Alive! was the first KISS album to feature free goodies as part of the package (the spiffy photo book) and set a trend for the group to give the fans something extra with each succeeding album.
The Japanese version of Alive! is subtitled Crazy Beast (Running Amok) From Hell.
5 shows were recorded for the album--Cleveland, Ohio; Detroit, Michigan; Tri-Cities, Wyoming; Wildwood, New Jersey; and Springfield, Illinois.
Circus magazine picked Alive! as the second-best album of the year behind Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti.

Thanx to:
Sean's Kanadian Kiss Konnection.

This album was and still is one of the all time classics! The only problem with the remastered package is that they chose to release Alive! as a 2 disc set when it easily could have fit onto a single disc! No bonus tracks from the so called KISS VAULTS. Maybe someday they'll get it right

Yeah this is great album but it's hardly live is it? Be nice to hear the actual tracks before all the studio overdubs.
