The Beach Boys live at Princeton University, Princeton, NJ 11.13.1971

A couple of laughable mistakes in the original tracklistings.

Same concert as the Beach Boy's "Brian's In The Music" but might be taken from a different source.

Mike Love
Carl Wilson

Al Jardine

A rather good Audience recording from the "Surf's up" period (Hence the title..) As with all Beach Boys live material you kinda wish Mike Love would just shut up.Especially as round this period the group were uffering in popularity a little in the States his inane remarks do nothing to disprove that the guys an idiot. The material performed is nothing but sheer class (Surfs up being a favourate album from the era). To hear some of those songs rearranged to work in a live format is wonderful (To use a Beach boys sorta phrase .. .
My CDR is from the Vinyl version but a very clean one at that. It's a great artifact from the past. Get this disk. It's one of the better ones.

This is some of the best sound quality I've heard from a live early 70's Beach Boys recording. The performances are superb and the backing instrumentation really helps some of the more complex songs maintain some of that "studio" feel. Carl's vocals are spectacular as always, so he steals the show. Although Dennis is reportedly absent (due to that infamous "hand injury" that prevented him from drumming), Ricky Fataar fills in and does an excellent job on drums. As Stuart mentioned, Mike Love is annoying as always, but I've gotten to the point where I can ignore it and still enjoy the great music. :)

Overall, a great song selection and outstanding performance. Recommended to any Beach Boys fan, especially fans of the Surf's Up material.

Runs a bit slow (pitch is flat, probably about 1/2 step)

"It's about time" is on disc one of my copy of this concert. I think this is right, since it's the last song before the break.

So, the last song on disc one should be "it's about time" and the first song on disc two should be "cool cool water". Anyway, this matches the actual show - I'm not sure how it was on the originals.

Sound quality is about a B- but what got me was the speed of the recording is slower than it should be. One standout song for me is "Don't Go Near The Water" as it seems to really "rock" in the concert performance more so than the recording. Same with "Darlin'". Worth owning though.
