Reviews| Review by: derha-dun | On 03 Nov 2002 at 07:18 CET | | | This U.K. album sounds excellent with great sounding stereo mixes of the German language tracks - I Want To Hold You Hand and She Loves You. The good Doctor did an excellent job of transfering this vinyl record to cd. The album artwork is tastefully done too! |
| Review by: pimenton | On 15 Apr 2004 at 20:43 CET | | | Rarities?...only for ordinary people not for bootlegers. Nothing new, even the artwork is ugly to see. |
| Review by: marvdog | On 16 Apr 2004 at 00:17 CET | | | I TOTALLY DISAGREE!!! That's just your own opinion pimenton!!!! The sound is Fantastic and the Artwork is the exact relplica of the original LP. |
| Review by: rudyve | On 23 Aug 2004 at 22:06 CET | | | I have the original LP and it's nice to have this rarities on cd in good quality; of course you can find this songs elsewhere too. The cover is as ugly as it was on the original LP |
| Review by: grandegi | On 08 May 2005 at 20:49 CET | | | A faithful reproduction of the UK vinyl, another great job by doctor Ebbetts. Despite what pimenton says, please notice that here you can find 6 tracks which fully deserve the "rarities" tag: the german tracks are in their rare stereo mix and the 'Long Tall Sally EP' tracks are in their rare mono mix (you can find this mix officially only on 'EP collection'). Notice that Past Masters CDs don't contain these versions. So in my opinion this CD is a must have for collectors. |
| Review by: Norman Carey | On 16 Oct 2007 at 16:35 CET | | | The comments up there by someone going by "pimenton" is not a review of this disk. He made no comment about Ebbett's work reproducing this album; he only criticized the album itself. Those comments would belong elsewhere. The only kind of comments that are appropriate here would be about how good a job Ebbetts did in re creating this album. Pimenton apparently sees fit to punish Ebbetts with a low rating for what he sees as defects with the album that Ebbetts was reproducing. I haven't actually heard the disk so it is equally inappropriate for me to rate it, but I'll do so anyway just to balance out that other inappropriate rating. |
| Review by: Aidanymous | On 17 Oct 2007 at 01:50 CET | | I'd have to agree with Norman Carey - the 15 April 2004 review completely misses the point of the album. It comes from an official release called "Rarities", part of the LP box set which came out in 1980, which I saved up for for months as a teenager to buy. It had no liner notes on the back, which only appeared when the album was later released separately.
The point of the album is that it's a CD reproduction of the original vinyl. And the quality is excellent, like all Dr Ebbetts albums.
I hesitate to look up Sgt Pepper's, for fear of someone pointing out "This is a rip-off! Sgt Pepper doesn't in fact appear anywhere on the album, which seems to be performed by a completely different band called the Beatles..." |
| Review by: Traxinet | On 24 Apr 2008 at 05:41 CET | | I like this album for a slightly different reason than most: the mono versions on it are absolutely superb sounding.
It's a pity that much of The Beatles' mono from the sixties often sounded poor. On one hand, you had the poorly mixed but great sounding stereo mixes, and on the other, you had the well mixed but inferior sounding mono. Dr. Ebbetts' new "Red Mono" series has remedied this to some extent, and the UK Rarities is also a great boon to mono lovers.
On this album are some of the greatest sounding mono mixes for songs like I'll Get You, Rain, and Slow Down (just to name a few). They all sound great... if only "Bad Boy" came in mono here.
Highly recommended. |
