A fantastic addition to the Dr. Ebbett collection. Although there are some conflicting reports as to exactly how much George Martin re-tweaked these recordings for inclusion in the 1976 "Rock & Roll Music" double album (later split into a separatae Volume 1 and Volume 2), the mixes presented here are really enjoyable. To my ears, the most dramatic differences can be heard in the earlier (pre-'65)recordings. This is one of the only handful of places to find some great quality, relatively sane-sounding stereo mixes of early songs like Twist and Shout, I Saw Her Standing There, and You Can't Do That. That is to say, here you can find stereo mixes where the vocals and the instruments are actually centered instead of being panned separately into odd places in the stereo picture like they are on the conventional 'stereo' versions available on the regular albums. As well, these mixes seem to have the bass, midrange and trebble boosted a bit...and while not neccessarily faithful to the 'original' mix, it makes them sound more contemporary on a modern system. Crank this album up!

Excellent collection, voices have been centralised on most tracks. Low harmony vocals on "I`m Down" are more noticable, "Back in the USSR" screeches at you with lots more aeroplane noises. Only 9 out of 10 though because the good doctor failed to boost the drum fills in "Got to get you into my life"

Yeah Baby! Now this is the way I remember the Beatles having grown up in the 70's and listening to them on this and other compilation albums. This is easly one of my FAVES! The song order and remixes are just fantastic! The sound quality is Excellent. Get a copy if you can you won't regret it.

This is IT! Dr. Ebbetts made the best transfer... it sounds like never before. This is the BEST collection of the Beatles. Many people will buy the red and blue album... but I think Rock and roll music and Love Songs (as second place) is the best collection ever made.

Beatle-rock from beginning till the end. from 1962 to 1970 as from track 1 to track 28. First I didn't knew that many songs were remixed, but my ears knew the orginals sounded less powerfull.
My favourites:
- I saw her standing there (is it really from '63?????)- Slow down - Drive my car (with less cow-bell)- Back in the USSR (WOW that airplain)- Hey Buldog- Birthday

I can't believe how good this collection sounds on downloaded mp3s, so it must be incredible on CD. There is no way that Dr. Ebbetts could boost the drum fills in "Got to Get You into My Life", unless he had access to the original four track tape. I think every released version has this problem, except for the remixed edit on the Anthology DVD.

I was very curious to hear this one (I have the "Rock and Roll I" LP) and I have to say I was a little disappointed. To me most of the songs still do sound like "ping pong stereo". Yes, the voices on some songs are centered, but the instruments are not. It is impossible to hear those songs with headphones. It's a shame, that great part of the Beatles' songs aren't available in a "normal" sounding stereo version. Why is everybody mad about the mono mixes? Because the stereo mixes are so bad (not all though). I think EMI should release the whole Beatles catalogue in a remixed version (like they did with YS), they could include the original mixes as bonus CDs...
Still it's the Beatles, so nine out of ten.

This has, IMO, the best-sounding stereo version of You Can't Do That that I've ever heard. That's enough in my book to warrant 10 stars!
