The Portastudio Demos are a rich vein for Sisters boots. There is a standard set of ten tracks that form the old vinyl boot "Hard Reign" and reappeared as the first ten tracks on "Acoustics From The Beehive" amongst many, many others.

This captures the full set of 21 demos, however. The time indicated (1980-83) suggests that is not a contemporaneous set, but they all hang together pretty well - reasonably refined demos with Doktor Avalanche providing the beats.

Very similar to the other version of Vailentine on this disc, but clearly at different pitches. Possibly just EQed differently.

The Sisters Of Mercy
An early version of the Reptile House song, the guitar sounding more distorted. The demo seems to originate from the Floorshow EP bootleg.

Has a different drumbeat, sounds far more positive, and is just Andrew singing and Gary playing.

Unreleased song. The first two lines are the same two found in Heartland, and the rest of the song is about how they'll drive away, at high speed down the highway, not caring about anything.

AKA Burn It Down, an unreleased track. It's possibly just an early version of Burn. The drumbeat is slightly different (the characteristic Burn drumbeat does play once or twice at the end), and the only part of this song officially released was a few lines, recycled as the backwards part of Burn)

(THIS REVIEW REFERS TO THE PORTASTUDIO DEMOS IN GENERAL - not to the specific versions presented above) - i've heard only a handful of the portastudio demos from another source. they had excellent sound quality (by sisters' bootleg standards) and were unique, quirky, very interesting (and very desirable) interpretations of the songs. having heard only a few, i am very interested in acquiring the rest.
