[Brennan]:The edit seems to be the last line; the word "belong" sounds shorter in the mono version as if it is done differently. On the other hand, a bootleg called "Garage Tapes" has an unidentified take where about only about the first half the song seems to match the finished version.

I've always wanted "Meet the Beatles" in "mono" in my collection as either a vinyl album or cd. Thank goodness I found a copy on cdr (thank-you trader). I've always held a fascination for any Beatles album in "mono" mainly because I couldn't buy them as a teenager in the 80's and heard that they contained mysterious "alternate mixes". This album doesn't really sound that different from the "stereo" version ie) no great big changes in overall song texture (<--?) if you know what I mean. It does sound great considering "mono" lacks the 3D depth quality that a "stereo" recording naturally has. There are no "clicks" or "pops" that I could hear and there is very little surface noise from vinyl to cd transfer. I recomend this title to all who wish to hear the early Beatles as they intended in "mono". 'Nuff said!

There is a good reason that this album doesn't sound that different from the stereo mix. That is because it IS the stereo mix combined down to one channel. The early albums on capitol had no actual mono mixes made. They simply combined the stereo channels down to one mono channel. As usual, this Dr ebbett release sounds awesome, just like an unplayed copy of the original vinyl. Since my last review I have received the new mono upgrade. The original sounds great. This new upgrade sounds FABULOUS and I personally prefer it to the Capitol box version. This new upgrade sounds like the vinyl that I remember where the box set sounds unnaturally harsh and bottom heavy. This is the only way to hear this album.

I'm not sure who released my copy of MEET THE BEATLES (MONO EDITION) but I fear that it is a vinyl transer/needledrop.
The quality is sort of good but I hear surface noise and crackling. Be that as it may, I prefer this mono version to the stereo version which I have been used to for years. I was never a fan of the vocals side/instruments side of the stereo mixes. The same with THE RAMONES early lps. The power is lost I believe. Here you have everything packed into one channel. The sound is less high-pitched and the bass guitar seems to be more up front. I recommend this version in mono from any bootleg company!!!
