Too Tough To Die Demos vg.

A friend of mine was given this tape by Walter Lure from Johnny Thunder's and the Heartbreakers in lieu of a loan to purchase a hmmnn medicene.
( info below from A Ramones site )

"You're Not Fooling Me"
(also known as "They're Not Really Me")

A great, driving song sung by Dee Dee. A typical Ramones style song which could be found on any album. He recycles the opening riff of "Psycho Therapy" for the intro and middle parts of this song. Maybe that is why the song didn't make it onto the album. NOTE: This song is very similar to "Baby Say You Beg" , and is probably a later version of it. "You're Not Fooling Me" is much faster and the verses are in a different key.

"Working It Over"
(also know as "We're Getting Out Of Here")

Perhaps the reason why this song didn't make it onto the album was because it is not a typical Ramones song. During the intro, the guitar plays a slow, snaking line unlike anything Johnny would normally play. In true demo form, drum sticks struck together keep time during the beginning of the song. The vocal melody is great, providing Joey a chance to show his skills. He even sings falsetto during a part of the chorus - a true rarity! If this song would have been released on an album, it could have been one of the Ramones best songs.

"Chasing The Night" (Richie vocals)

Richie sang on only one officially-released song, "(You) Can't Say Anything Nice." He had a decent voice, at least no worse than Dee Dee's. He sings the melody slightly different in some places and during the bridge mistakenly sings "Rock all day, sleep all night" instead of "Rock all night, sleep all day," causing the verse not to rhyme. On this version, the guitar solo in the middle of the song is shorter than the one on the album version. Also, the song does not have the synthesizer and backing vocals that would be on the version released.

"Danger Zone" (Dee Dee vocals)

Dee Dee and Johnny wrote this song, which Joey sang on the version released on the album. On this demo version, Dee Dee sings it the nearly the same that Joey did, with no significant changes.

"Humankind" (Richie vocals)

Richie wrote this song, but on the album it was sung by Joey. The demo version is essentially the same as the album version. Richie shows that he was a very capable singer, singing it well.

"Elevator Operator" - Sung by Richie. Great song very catchy and shamefully unreleased.

"I Am Not The Answer" sung by Dee Dee.

"We Gotta Get Out Of Here (As Fast As We Can)" - Joey's only vocal on the cd
