An excellent collection of Off-line recordings. Most never released before. The listener can get an idea of how some songs sound like with track seperation. A "monitor mix" is an Off-line recording taped from studio monitors during the preliminary mixing of a song. And in this case additional research for the Abbey Road Video Show in an EMI controlroom back in 1983.

Nothing really new here except "Fuck A Duck" and "Who
The Fuck You Think You Are". "Brian Epstein's Blues" is
about a minute longer but with no new verses and the
backing track still sounds distant. The mixes are all
different and there are a number of conversations
between John Barret and the guy who produced the Abbey
Road Video (his name escapes me). These are (with a few
exceptions) the tapes that would be given over for use
in the Abbey Road tour video and later leaked to
bootleggers. These mixes are an off-line recording
with John Barret rolling tape and explaining what we
are listening to. Sound quality is consistent with the
original "Control Room Monitor Mixes" and like it,
Barret stops and starts the tape, rolls forward and
backward and does live mixes.

Pretty boring, too. It's like listening to someone in the next room listening to parts of It's Not Too Bad and Sessions. I'd rather listen to the real It's Not Too Bad and Sessions.

To me, maybe one of the worst Yellow dog releases. Like Sticky Wickets say above "Nothing really new here except..." The tracks aren't printed in chronoligic order. The cover is very good quality except that pictures are only from "Sgt Pepper & All you need is love era" (?) Just get a copy! Don't buy it.

These 4 Discs I'm afraid did not live up to the hype prior to their appearance in trading circles recently. I was so disappointed after the final CD finished. Yes, there are some fantastic 'new' tracks (such as the rude version of 'Sexy Sadie and some of the between song chatter) but there are far too many tracks here which are easily available elsewhere and in much better quality.

It is most certainly NOT worth buying. Get someone to do 1CD 'best of' for you.

I like it - very 'live' atmosphere.
You feel like sitting beside Barrett and listening to all this exciting stuff!
Of course we know most of these mixes but there are true gems and the collection is fun to listen to.
Sound quality is the only reason this doesn't get 10 stars.
This 4 CD box set has been re-released as a 3 CD-set by 'Scorpio' (No Scorpio (UK)-04)
