An excellent collection of Off-line recordings. Most never released before. The listener can get an idea of how some songs sound like with track seperation. A "monitor mix" is an Off-line recording taped from studio monitors during the preliminary mixing of a song. And in this case additional research for the Abbey Road Video Show in an EMI controlroom back in 1983.

These 4 Discs I'm afraid did not live up to the hype prior to their appearance in trading circles recently. I was so disappointed after the final CD finished. Yes, there are some fantastic 'new' tracks (such as the rude version of 'Sexy Sadie and some of the between song chatter) but there are far too many tracks here which are easily available elsewhere and in much better quality. It is most certainly NOT worth buying. Get someone to do 1CD 'best of' for you.

I like it - very 'live' atmosphere. You feel like sitting beside Barrett and listening to all this exciting stuff! Of course we know most of these mixes but there are true gems and the collection is fun to listen to. Sound quality is the only reason this doesn't get 10 stars. This 4 CD box set has been re-released as a 3 CD-set by 'Scorpio' (N^o Scorpio (UK)-04)

It would have been great if this came out about 3 years before Ultra Rare Trax, Backtracks and all the other John Barrett material surfaced. Your mouth would be watering for better quality versions that you would know existed. However this set is for the completist as you can easily get much superior quality versions of this material elsewhere. You do hear them playing around with different mixes on these songs which is kind of cool. I listened to it once and found it very interesting, as most die hard Beatle collectors will,but I probably will put it on my shelf. This one you just "have"
