 | | RM1 | | Take 2 | | 4 Nov 1965 | | SS.ETC.10.02.RM1 | | The Beatles |
Take 2 was mixed into mono (RM1) on 30 Nov 1965. This version is in much superior quality than Take 2 w/o mixing. Three different versions appeared on bootlegs.
+ The first lasts more than six minutes. + The second fades out around the 3:50 mark. + The third one was found in John Barrett's private collection (not to be confused with the Barrett Mix !). It is not clear for now if this version is another mono mix or the same RM1 but it is presented by Vigotone as a 1965 mono mix and according to Lewisohn, 12-Bar Original was mixed into mono on 30 Nov 1965 between 4.45 PM and 5.00 PM ! This means it was mixed in 15 minutes ! Therefore, it's dubious they had the time to mix it twice, so, for now, this "Barrett" version is considered as RM1. The sound quality, however, is superior to the other versions of RM1. |
| Complete version of '12 Bar Original'. RM1, 30 nov 1965
----- The "unidentified versions" of "12-Bar Original" that appear on "Ultra Rare Trax Vol.6", and "Challenger One" and "Recording Sessions Vol. 1" (as well as on several other unlisted bootlegs) are all in fact the same as the one on "Acetates", except they fade out around the 3:50 mark. Note, however, that the source of this recording on "Unsurpassed Masters Vol. 2" is different from the one on "Acetates". Perhaps it's the same source before it was declicked and denoised. There are some minor noises and audio anomalies in the "UM2" version that distinguish it from the other YD issue.

 | | RM1 | | Take 6 | | 20 Jan 1967 | | SS.SGT.13.06.RM1 | | The Beatles |
Take 6 features new vocals by John, a bass line, Paul's vocals and Ringo's drums. Paul's part (from take 6) was edited on take 2 on Anthology 2.
RM1 (30 Jan 1967) is a very rough mix intended for demo acetate. |
| RM1, 30 jan 1967 Vocal overdub recorded 20 Jan 1967 with this rough mix been made 30 Jan prior to Paul's vocals being wiped on a subsequent overdub on the 03 Feb 1967.
The famous 'Oh Shit' version (different than on Anthology 2 because here it is complete). You can hear the counting clearly.Paul is laughing while singing and forget his lyrics.

 | Similar to the released version but lacks more overdubs.
RM7 is based on Take 9 + overdubs recorded on 3 May 1967 + overdubs recorded on 27 Apr 1967.
A tape copy of this mix was made for the Magical Mystery Tour film producer. |

Reviews| Review by: François Vander Linden, tilleul@compuserve.com | On 7 Jun 1999 | | The only tracks of interest here are: Bad To Me: unreleased as a Beatles song. One And One Is Two: another unreleased Beatles song (though it's not a good one) Goodbye: unreleased as a Beatles song. Pleasant but not excellent. Something: has different lyrics but a similar version can be found on Anth 3 (in much better quality)
The other tracks can be found on many other bootlegs or on Anthology.
Final review: unless you don't have the above songs versions, you can forget it. |
| Review by: Frédéric Gatet, SMAF@MSN.COM | On 17 Sep 1999 | | This is a decent boot; several of the cuts appear on Anthology II. "Bad to me" is neat since Lennon sold the tune and never released it. The unreleased McCartney tunes ("One and One is Two" and "Goodbye") are decent but forgetable. The best tracks are the ones found on the Anth. II CD set: "A day in the life" does not have the tacked on (artificial) ending found on Anth II; "Christmas Time" is MUCH longer than the version found on the single released for AnthII but the song is horrible anyway (endlessly repetitive) so little is gained. The original version of "I Me Mine" is neat in that you can see where Specter cut and pasted to double the length of the song.
Overall the CD rates a B-/C+. The Anthology II set stole its thunder... |
| Review by: Steve, mwormuth@gm.dreamcast.com | On 18 Jan 2000 | | This is a intrested but today well-known tracks. The Demos are copied from hundrets
tracks are today are copied by many bootlegs. At the of the
time of release a good record. For collectors. |
| Review by: Eric, sink0014@tc.umn.edu | On 16 Apr 2000 | | | All these tracks are well known today, but I gave this bootleg a rating of nine because this is where the tracks first appeared on, and this is a pretty interesting assortment of Acetetates in varying quality. I do question whether or not ALL of these songs are from actual "acetates" the CD claims they are from. |
| Review by: Jim Coburn, jcgolf44@aol.com | On 19 Apr 2000 | | | This CD serves as a referance source for most of the CD compilations out on the market today for this material. When it first appeared in '91 it was a revelation. |
| Review by: jreing | On 20 Nov 2001 at 20:29 CET | | | Indeed a neat cd, but besides what appears on other boots or on the Anth. series- we only get about 5 new songs/version... |
| Review by: mojofilter | On 14 Jan 2003 at 01:27 CET | | i give this one an eight...because it was one of my first bootleg cds...so i have a softspot for it..... i were getting started today, i would say not essential
|
| Review by: mike harrison | On 20 Jan 2004 at 04:21 CET | | | Just for the "A Day n The Life" track you've got to have this, unless you found it on another boot... Interesting "Blue Jay Way" also... |
| Review by: cimrya deal | On 01 Jan 2006 at 22:19 CET | | My copy has the following bonus tracks: 14.Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (basic track, longer) 15.I Want You (Paul singing) 16.A Huge Melody (part 1) 17. (part 2) |
| Review by: nintendomichael | On 10 May 2006 at 23:39 CET | | | I like the song Goodbye. Its a good cd. |
