I have the blue cover version. I believe you get the same amount of material as 2 of the Ultra Rare tracks, but I think the Yellow Dog unsurpassed are the standard. None the less great stuff! Real outtakes, not sanatised like on the Anthology releases. You buy, you like, no worry.

Put yourself back in time to 1988-1989. The shock of hearing this, (or Ultra Rare Trax Volumes 1 and 2, which it essentially duplicated), was overwhelming! After almost two decades of vinyl bootlegs, most of which were shoddy, this was like seeing colour for the first time after living in a black and white world. In some ways, this single disc could work as a 'best of' Anthology. I still listen to it, and still would recommend it. The Anthology official releases have nullified parts of this bootleg, and have made much material "common", yet this single disc still packs a wallup. There is no fat on this disc.

I "had" the blue cover version and it was the best material I ever had. Why? It contains 27 tracks of Beatles covers that the average citizen has never heard because they are near the perfect album productions that the world has enjoyed since the 1960s. In other words, to the musical lay person, the songs sound like they were just moments away from the songs I grew up listening to on records I bought from the music store. But you get the extra feature of "seeing" the polish brighten the music.
If anybody out there has a source for this material please let me know as I "had" this music and I would like to have it again.
Thank you,

Scott

I have Red cover version & it sounds great. Many of the
tracks that appeared on the Anthology are still different
here.

I agree with the comments made by pohlar prod. This one disc changed for many of us the way we hear these great outakes. Growing up in the "vinyl" world and to finally get this stuff on cd's was great enough....but 27 tracks!!!!! It was if somebody finally plugged the bass amp in and we hear the music in a whole different light. With all the hoopla over the Anthology series for me, I like these cd's far better. In fact alot of my old vinyl bootlegs are better then Anthology. Sound may not be the greatest but at least they were true outakes and not the polished up chopped up stuff EMI spoon feeds us.
Buy this cd.....it's worth every penny.

i haven't been into beatlegs for more than a few years, and i only just got this disc. i find it boring and unnecessary to anyone who has the Studio 2 Sessions set. so maybe the folks who've been into bootlegs for a long time like this, but i think newbies should just go for the newer, bigger sets instead.

This was the first CD boot I bought back in '88.
At the time, this was a great disc.
Many great quality tracks on one disc.

This was one of the first Beatle boots I bought on CD in '89 or '90. Red copy. I had bought a few previous to this and they were horrible vinyl transfers (and expensive since this is when CDs were starting to be THE thing), and this one was like winning the lottery. I thought 'That Means Alot' was one of the greatest songs ever, and still can't understand why it wasn't included on anything from the 'Help' era. As an EP track, it would have been perfect. I saw this on Ebay a few months ago for $25,000 or $75,000 using Buy It Now. Either it was a joke or the guy must have been out of his mind. I asked the Seller if I bought it for 75K if he would cut me a deal on shipping. No reply. Still my favorite CD Boot.

Years ago I got this off a guy that owned a record shop in Toronto Canada I got Back-Track 1-3 on 3 Maxell 90 mins tapes I still have them to this day, I was staying with a friend and he had a Sony sound system with Pro Logic so it was 2 front 2 back and a center and he had it set up beautfuly...we poped in this tape copy from the guys CD and I will never forget hearing 3. I Saw Her Standing There Take 2 with the bit of chat it was like being there with his set up I think we stoped the tape went out and buy 6 bank tapes and pop and made copys of them so we woulsdn t damage the orginals....so my orginal tapes were possably played3 tapes cd-tape tape to tape...
I still have this tapes in a box 10+ years later.....

I remember when this came out. I heard it on the radio and drove 30 minutes to the joint that had it. $55. I enjoyed the BackTrack volumes.
Review by: Mr._StarlightOn 08 Dec 2006 at 07:54 CET
The Blue cover and red cover versions are the same, there is no difference at all the disc all came from the same press run. The party that made this item had half the covers printed in blue and half printed in red, the wholesalers had the same amount of red and blue covers. One back tracks 2 some had white and blue covers with out the photo which said advance copy, this was nothing more then trying to sell a second copy to a collector. But one does need to remember that all of this stuff pre-dates the Yellow Dog releases

This was my first CD boot, after many years of vinyl, and I still listen to it.
Review by: zappmaccaOn 16 Aug 2007 at 02:32 CET
Same as jedrick63, this was my first boot cd as well. I remember seeing Ultra rare volumes 1 & 2 at a record show for $40.00 a piece, or $75.00 for the pair. Having not heard them, or knowing of their outstanding quality, I passed them up. Then not too much later I found a copy of Backtrack at a boot dealer at my local fleamarket for $35.00. Snapped it right up. By that time I had read the reviews for Ultra Rare, but I still couldn't believe how good it was when I first played it. Sure brings back a lot of good memories. Like my first vinyl boot, Hot Az Son, the equavilent of Sweet Apple Tracks, in 1972. But that's a whole 'nother story......
Review by: gordonfpOn 26 Mar 2008 at 16:46 CET
I've got to rate this a 10 because it was the 1st CD Beatles boot I acquired, and I was literally blown away. I had both the "Sessions" and "Not For Sale" boots on LP, but I wasn't prepared for the audio quality of many of these takes. It opened my eyes to not only the quality of this material, but the possibilites of digital sound on the Beatles' recordings (which, sadly, has yet to be realized). Anyway, like others here, this boot brings back really good memories. It was pricey (as all boots were), but worth every penny, and, even after the Anthology series made many of these redundant, the quality of some of these outshines even the Apple/EMI releases
