Comments
Another Matrix bootleg.

The ambiance is very intimate, café-concert like.

Vocals are essentially Jim. The others are heard from time to time.

Very few comments between songs, some claps.

Reviews

Review by: François Vander Linden, tilleul@compuserve.comOn 8 Jun 1999
As usual, Black Panther records gives us a very ugly cover.
Hopefully, tracks quality is good.
This is my first Doors bootleg and I know that there are other songs from the Matrix but this set is great.
The atmosphere is really different than on other shows. This is very intimate: you can hear the doors in your house !

Final review: if you don't have any Matrix tapes, this disc can be a start. However, you might prefer a complete set.

The Doors live at the Matrix club, San Francisco, 07th Mar.-1967.

A very nice CD, mine is a direct copy of this on Back Trax CD's.

My copy is titled: Crawling King Snake, but it is a direct copy of this CD.

Sound fidelity is excellent, stereo soundboard.

CD is a factory pressed silver disc, and appears to be East European origin.

Date on CD is 1988.

Wonderful cover picture graphics of Jim levitating a girl like a magician.

Inside foldout has nice black and white photographs of the band.

Graphics are hi-quality.

These performances are dated 07th March-1967, and it is well-known that the Doors played two sets each night on this date and 10th March-1967.

Recorded in a small club atmosphere before the Doors exploded in popularity.

The club owner recorded the shows direct from the soundboard to a hi-quality reel-to-reel recorder, thus accounting for the excellent sound fidelity.

This CD is not the complete show, a number of tracks are missing.

Between song banter has been edited out, you just get the full tracks, not any comments from Jim.

These shows were several months before the release of the Doors famous first album and single Light My Fire.

Nice performance of the John Lee Hooker-Crawling King Snake blues song.

The Matrix tapes are now a bit redundant, as the Doors and Rhino Records have officially released a two-CD set culled from these famous performances.

This is the Doors at the very beginning, and show the genius of Jim Morrison and just how superb a band they were.

These were performances before the drugs and alcohol got to Jim Morrison, and he is utterly dynamic, with his obvious charisma clearly evident on these tracks.

Not quite as good sound fidelity as other releases of these shows, or the official release, but still quite listenable and excellent.

For completists only due to the now official release of these wonderful Matrix shows.

Jim is at the top of his game during these shows....

RIP: Lizard King....
