Comments
From Doc's Dec 2006 Announcement:

Also, one of the Brazilian mono releases employing fold-in mono. This one, however, plays back at "regular" speed, like all stereo versions I've heard. Again, a surprisingly clean and punchy version of this LP. The artwork, of course, replicates the original Brazilian release.

Do you really need a simple mono fold-down of the regular stereo mix? If you're a completist and/or a rabid DESS collector, the answer is uniformly YES!

Do you need to get this because of superior sonics, stunning clarity, crisp highs and amazingly detailed bass? Short answer, NO. The transfer is excellent, mind you, but you're not missing out on some long-forgotten super pressing. And it's in mono, after all.

As usual, presentation is second to none with the artwork being an exact replica of the original LP.

My rating of 7 out of 10 is based on the "bang for buck" factor, not sound quality, artwork, songwriting or anything else.

This does not sound like the original Brazil mono mix; I have the CD's for Abbey Road, and Let It Be Brazil mono, put out in 2002 by Penguin Productions; and those sound authentic. Nice artwork though.

The mono Brazilian LPs Abbey Road and Let It Be are really fake mono. But the mono Brazilian Hey Jude LP is not a "fake mono". This LP was compiled (as strange as it may seems) with the original mono versions of all the songs, except Ballad Of John & Yoko and Old Brown Shoe, that do appear in fake mono.
A good number of stereo-only LPs were release in Brazil in fake mono, like Ram, McCartney, All Things Must Pass, Live Peace in Toronto, Sentimental Journey, Beaucoups of Blues. Some say that Imagine and Wild Life also have fake mono brazilian versions, but I never saw them.
All the solo singles released from 1969 to 1972 were also released in fake-mono versions.

But I agree with Aidanymous: the sound, in spite of being simply a fold-down mono, has a different texture, sounding (again as strange as it may seems) like a real mono. The same occurs with All Things Must Pass. The mono Brazilian album has a nice texture in the sound. I can't say if this same sound would appear if you get your stereo CD and mix the channels into one...mystery...

Regards, Leonardo.
