| Review by: BEATLEDOOD55 | On 08 May 2007 at 17:23 CET | | The actual complete concert. Unless you were lucky enough to be at Shea Stadium on that night this is the first time the complete unedited concert has been available to fans. The original reel to reel tape was auctioned off not too long ago and thankfully Apple didn't get ahold of it or else we would probably never get to hear it! The concert is all 12 songs and is totally undoctored. The doctored version as heard on the tv special is also included but don't waste your time listening to that when you can hear the actual complete concert. All of the opening acts are also included but of course you'll skip them and get right to the lads. John once said "nothing is real" but not to worry, this is the real deal. Beatles fans rejoice!! |
| Review by: Stkoch_28213 | On 20 May 2007 at 11:54 CET | | | Just getting all four releases of HMC. Great Suff, superb packaging and the first CDs worth to buy as a original since years. I hope for more to come. Most of the material is new and if it is not the soundquality improved very much. |
| Review by: Legs | On 04 Jul 2007 at 12:59 CET | | The cleaned up BBC soundtrack has been availbe on different bootlegs before, but here it sounds better, certainly better then Spanks release " Shea/Candlestick Park. However the real treat is the unedited full concert. "Everybody's Trying To Be Me Baby" has been released on Anthology, but been cleaned up and without a doubt noise reduction has been used. And "She's A Woman" sees its first cd release.
The sound isn't excelent, not like the studio outtakes ofcourse, but realy good for a live recording and better then expected. "I Feel Fine" for example had to be re-recorded for the soundtrack, however the original version included here sounds great. However "Help" has a drop out, you can barely hear the instruments and you can't hear the vocals at all. So it was understandable that George Martin requested a re-make.
For the first time also we can hear the original "Twist and Shout" as one of the Hollywood bowl performance was used for the soundtrack. For the soundtrack the official studio version of "Act Naturally" was edited to fit with Ringo's performance. Now we get to hear the original performance.
Other songs only received some overdubs, a new organ on "I'm Down" for example. We are now able to compare the newly released inline and unedited recording to the BBC soundtrack which is included on cd two.
Apart from the Beatles you also get the performances of different artists, which perhaps is a bit much. I'm only interested in the Beatles, but you can't say that the set isn't complete.

| Review by: Chappo | On 09 Jul 2007 at 03:42 CET | | This is amazing. The fact that this recording exists and has just seen the light of day 42 year after the event is staggering.
This is the REAL Shea experience. Just listening to the lads coming onstage tuning, and checking their mics made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
It's not perfect sound...it is the unedited mono line feed from the PA after all. It gets a bit bottom heavy in parts and some of the levels of the vocals are a bit high at times. It is great to listen too though, the atmosphere shines through.
All the performances from that day are included. I can;t say I've listened to the other muchs...but I will get around to them one day.
I think I need to make some popcorn and hotdogs, get a big drink of Coke, pop this CD on and have my own Shea Stadium recreation party one day!
Essential!

| Review by: Pattie | On 11 Oct 2007 at 23:53 CET | | | I'm in heaven! I attended this historic concert (at the age of 6!) and can't believe I'm sort of re-living it. Well done!!! |
| Review by: Bixx | On 12 Mar 2009 at 20:51 CET | | | Just found this stuff on You Tube! A couple of good folks took the Unedited soundboard & Synced it with The Shea Video and it's really good. Hard to believe that in such "Primitive" times with what is now Very Primitive recording devices, and stage amplification that they sounded really great. What's a guess on what this was recorded on. Quarter Track 7 inch? Imagine if you will if they could have used 1 inch tape and 24 track. Ah but it is what it is. And it is Great. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Hey Jeann! She Ex of Cat City, and now somewhere in The M&M side of Jersey, Where you at? Miss Ya! |
