"THE ABBEY ROAD COMPANION" is a collection of demos/outtakes and rough mixes recorded for the Beatles' 1969 ABBEY ROAD LP.

I Want You (She's So Heavy)(Lennon/McCartney)
Song
Fake ?
Feb 1969
The Beatles
The Beatles follow in the footsteps of Cream as a heavy-rock trio while George Harrison is in hospital. A session NOT documented in Mark Lewisohn's Beatle-books and one rare occasion where Paul sings lead vocals on one of John's songs. Trident studios, February 1969.

It is still unsure if this is a fake or not.
The date is of course speculative (noted usually as 21 feb 1969).

Fake
Feb 1969
Beatles Related
Fake. Sounds nothing like any of the Beatles.
This song is said to be a Lennon composition but it is not proved (some even say it's a fake or a Mccartney song).
This has nothing to do with the George Harrison song of the same name.
Said to be the "counterpart" to I WANT YOU, a sentimental ballad.
The date is of course speculative (noted usually as 21 feb 1969).
5.
Something(Harrison)
Song
Demo
25 Feb 1969
The Beatles
The original George Harrison demo. Recorded on his 26th birthday, 25 February 1969

A rough mix of the Beatles' studio-version complete with extended piano-led jam-session ending. Take 36, 2 May 1969
7.
Maxwell's Silver Hammer(Lennon/McCartney)
Song

The Beatles
Liner notes say: complete version with full beginning.
But it seems to be a fake (the intro was taken from the middle of the song. Why did they do this? There exist a perfectly genuine outtake)

Fakery abounds. Most of this is available elsewhere in better sound quality; the songs that appear to be unique (I Need You) are almost certainly bogus. I like the cover, though.

The sound quality of this one isn't what it should be. When you listen to the Long one/Huge Medley you can here that it was recorded to loud (by the bootlegger). It's distorted all through. I wished i'd bought another version of this one.

got this for free in a trade, thats why it has a higher ranking. Abbey Road is my favorite album, and its nice to hear outtakes from the material, but as noted above there are some songs recorded too loudly, and some that are fakes. But if you can get it in a trade like I did, its kinda fun for a listen once in a while.

This has some nice bits in it. Not strong all the way through by any means. The Huge Melody is not circulating in distortion free condition at this time 2004 (and may not exist).

This CD is a bloody joke. I bought it for "I need you" and "She's so heavy". "I need you" is such a bad Lennon imitation, that I first thought it would be the Ruttles, but the Ruttles do certainly better things! "She's so heavy", the music certainly is made by the Beatles but this voice certainly isn't Macca. Soundquality isn't too good. Avoid it, there are better AR boots.

An excerpt from Mark Lewisohn's "The Beatles Recordings"

"Saturday 22 February"
"Trident Studios..." "...:time unknown. Recording: 'I Want You..." "...(takes 1-35), P: Glyn Johns. E: Barry Sheffield..."

"There was, at best, a fine dividing line between the end of Get Back and the beginning of sessions for what was to become Abbey Road. Although work on the latter did not begin in earnest until July, a number of that album's songs were well under way by that time."

"One was 'I Want You', a fine John Lennon song begun now with 35 takes of the basic track and John's guide vocal (one experimental take was sung by Paul McCartney), almost completed in April and finally finished in August..."

Not sure what to believe, but I thought I'd drop that in.
