In late May 1968 (the excact date not known) the Beatles came together at 'Kinfauns', George Harrisons home in Esher. One by one, first John, then Paul, they recorded 23 of their newest compositions by double-tracking themselves on George's Reel-to-Reel-tape-machine.
These songs, most of whom where written during the Beatles' two-month-stay on a meditation-course in Rishikesh, India, February - April 1968, were subsequently recorded for the 'White Album'. But not all of them made it onto vinyl and thus remain unreleased (at least as Beatles-versions).
Judging by the outcome of this session, it must have been a very sunny and relaxing day. Spring certainly was in the air (and a bit of pot maybe too).
Just accompanied by their acoustic guitars, John, Paul and George recorded very charming and joyful early versions of their newest tunes.
Something slightly out-of-sync with their own double-tracking but who cares?
Spontanity counts!
Had this session been recorded 25 years later it would have been a bonafide TV-Unplugged-performance!
But as it is, this 1968 session remained in the vaults until now !!

We proudly present this tape to you in the correct running-order and in the best possible sound (two generations away from the actual master-tape).
Enjoy!
The short acoustic bit of "Helter Skelter" was recorded on 11th June, 1968 at Abbey Road studios.
The last two tracks were recorded in India.
The light atmosphere of these musical snippets set the tone for the "Kinfauns"-session.

Nice collection of the Esher/Kinfauns demos which have been released over and over again. This has as good a sound as any release, except maybe Vigotone's "Kinfauns to Chaos" which I haven't heard.

If you could have just one Beatles bootleg, taking this one could be a good choice. A solid performance by all three with interesting fresh interpretions of their newest songs. Not completely a smooth recording but who cares, the later stage Beatles giving their best.

The Legend Of The Esher Demo's is that when the Beatles returned from India in the late spring of 1968, prior to entering the recording studio to record the White album, they gathered at George Harrison's Kinfaus home in Esher.

Only three of the Beatles were present (John, Paul and George) Ringo is not evident.

There, they recorded these wonderful demo's on some simple equipment at George Harrison's home as working ideas prior to entering the recording studio.

The Beatles recorded some 23-tracks (some sources say as many as 26-tracks).

On Yellow Dog's Unsurpassed Demo's there is a second instrumental version of Julia, so there may be a couple more that were recorded but are not on this CD.

Also recorded during this session were acoustic versions of Mean Mr. Mustard and Polythene Pam, which were included on the official Beatles Anthology Vol.3, credited to this late May session.

So in all probability, there were approx. 25-27 demo's known to have been recorded, possibly more that remain unreleased.

These recordings have been known as the Esher Demo's since surfacing approx. 20-years ago.

There is some wonderful stuff here, and the notes above are quite accurate as to the history of these recordings.

Some of the Esher demos were released on Vol-3 of the official Beatles Anthology series, but not all.

Many still remain unreleased, and another fine example is Yellow Dog's Unsurpassed Demo's CD of the same acoustic tracks.

Legend also has it that the Beatles had 4-copies of these demo's pressed onto acetates by producer George Martin for their review before entering the studio on 04th June-1968 to begin recording sessions for the White Album.

Supposedly John Lennon's acetate copy is the one that has been released and was copied, but this is unconfirmed.

In any event, they were recorded as noted in late May 1968 after the Beatles returned from India, but prior to entering the recording studio on 04th June 1968.

The Beatles began recording the White Album on 04th June.

As noted, track 26-Spiritual Regeneration was recorded in India that spring, at Mike Love's birthday party.

This track has also been called Indian Rope Trick on various other bootlegs.

Track 3-Child Of Nature later became the classic John Lennon song Jealous Guy.

Superb tracks, and this gives a deep insight into the Beatles White album.

Even at this early stage, most of the tracks had been worked out and written.

This CD makes a very nice alternative to the White album.

Sound fidelity is quite good, considering it was recorded on very simple equipment.

Highly, Highly recommended especially for historical purposes....
