Review by: Gary , gbeegle@frontiernet.netOn 18 Aug 2000
This CD features rehersals at S.I.R. Studios in August 21st & 22nd 1972.John & Yoko and the Elephants Momory Band were preparing for the One to One concerts which would be held in a little over a weeks time from these rehearsal sessions. This CD consists of mostly old rock and roll standards, and the sound quality is very good on most of the tracks. My one complaint would be that the original tape was edited in most cases to just include the songs.I would have prefered to also hear the interaction between John and the band during the songs. There is some of that, but not enough,as I always find the interaction between John and the band to be very interesting. In my mind, that helps examine the Lennon mind at work. There seemed to be some tension between John & Yoko during this session because at one point John tells Phil Spector to turn Yoko down because that is all he can hear in his headphones,at which point Yoko does her thing even louder, and John then tells Phil to turn his voice !up.At another point when they are rehearsing Yoko's,"Were all Water",John & Yoko are having a heated discussion of how will the band know when she is done doing her thing so they can end the song. All the off mic dialog is very low,and I had to pump up the volume to hear it,but it is very interesting. That is why I would have prefered to have more of this interaction, rather than having alot of the songs edited. Now on to the review of what is good here.Basically all the Rock n' Roll songs are good and the sound is good.Standouts are "Roll over Beethoven","Honey Don't","Whole lotta shakin/It'll Be Me" and "Don't be cruel/hound dog".Overall I like this Cd alot, but again due to not having the complete tape unedited,I give it a 7.If it were more complete,I would have given it a 9.If you collect stuff from John & Yoko's 1972 period, this is a good one to add to your collection,if you can find it.It isn't one of the easier Lennon Boots to find,so if you see it don't hesitate if this per!iod of John's life interests you.I think you will enjoy it too.
