From Doc's Announcement:

IN 1979, EMI DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO ISSUE ITS OWN VERSION OF THE US COMPILATION LP “HEY JUDE” (ORIGINALLY RELEASED IN 1970. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THE EARLY EXPORT PRESSINGS (CPCS 106). THIS IS A FIRST PRESSING OF THE OFFICIAL UK RELEASE OF THIS LP FROM 1979 – AND FOR MY MONEY, IT SOUNDS FAR SUPERIOR TO THE AMERICAN PRESSING OF THE LP. THE SOUND IS OUTSTANDING. (BOX PARLOPHONE LABEL).

This pressing on the UK Parlophone/2 box EMI black and silver label in fact is a fantastic first pressing PCS-7184 from 1979.

The title of this album is also know as "Beatles Again" which later was changed to "Hey Jude".
In any event, this is how I feel when I reach for this album or now the excellent transfer from Dr Ebbetts.

I like to refer to this "Hey Jude" LP as "The Beatles Again" Readers Digest version.

Check out the track list now...Tracks 1 and 2 put you right into the state of WORLDWIDE BEATLEMANIA in wonderful wide stereo as well for those 2 songs during the "A Hard Days Night" era.

Then tracks 2 and 3 move you into the HELP, RUBBER SOUL, REVOLVER era. Lots of studio experimentation, great vocals and the first use of a backwards tape loop being used on a POP record by The Beatles.

The next track 5 brings you into the Sgt Pepper's and Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine era.

Track 6 and the title track brings you into the White Album era

Then the next 4 tracks take you through the Get Back/Let it Be era
Along with The Ballad Of John and Yoko shows you that what was going on in John's life and how he and his partner Paul recorded this song together without the others in a way summing up the tension that was showing could soon be the end of the era of The Beatles as a group.

Ten Wonderful In "True Stereo" Tracks:

1 - Can’t Buy Me Love
2 - I Should Have Known Better
3 - Paperback Writer
4 - Rain
5 - Lady Madonna
6 - Revolution
7 - Hey Jude
8 - Old Brown Shoe
9 - Don’t Let Me Down
10 - The Ballad of John and Yoko

Dare I use the term so IN SHORT, this album as a whole can really give you that entire feeling of a full day of listening to all of The Beatles LP's only in a very concise short amount of time, yet you end up feeling quite fulfilled.

THIS IS A MUST HAVE DISC AS WELL AS TO OWN....BTW I also want to mention the SUPERB artwork from the front cover to the inside cover to the back cover of the jewel case as well as the gorgeous replica of the thermal printed label on top of the disc. So it's all about not just the music here but in fact the entire package.
Thanks to Dr Ebbetts!!!
