This set is excellent, get it.

I just wanted to make a note that those of you who are sharp-eyed will find a discrepancy between the way that two tracks are listed on the disc label, the back insert, and on the inside panel and the order in which they actually appear on the disc.

The error is that track 25 is listed in those areas as being "Eleanor Rigby" & track 26 is listed as "Yellow Submarine". In fact it should be the other way around.(BTW-the gatefold listing is correct)

The tracks as listed in this BZ file are in the correct order so thanx to derha-dun for keeping this straight. With all the faulty/bogus Ebbetts discs floating around this initial artwork printing error may cause some confusion. I expect that Doc will remedy this situation eventually.

UPDATE 2-25-05: The printing errors on the disc & inserts has been remedied. Only the first batches of this particular disc will have the printing errors. Doc Ebbetts has actually sent out replacement artwork/disc to correct this minor error.

This Is a great set. Some of these songs sound better here than anywhere I have heard them including We Can Work It Out And I Feel Fine. This most certainly should be a legit release.

Exceptional sound quality! Man, I don't know how the Doc did it, but he really outdid himself on this one. A must have.

PERFECTION
Review by: SilentHillOn 17 Jan 2006 at 21:57 CEST
From the Doc's announcement:

This two disc collection is long overdue. It features the A and B sides of
every regular issue British 45 rpm record the Beatles releases during their
time together.
This set is sourced entirely from 7 inch vinyl records - some of them being
the original first-issue Parlophone 45s, some from the vinyl boxed set
released in the 1970s.
This set includes what I believe to be one of the very few "first
generation" vinyl transfers of "Love Me Do" available. As you know, the
original 45 rpm version of "Love Me Do" featuring Ringo on drums is
available on the US "Rarities" LP as well as "Past Masters." However, EMI
was forced to remaster this track for those releases by transferring the
audio from a 45 rpm record because the original master tape was lost or
destroyed. This meant that by the time you got it, it went from master tape
to vinyl back to master tape only to come back to vinyl or CD. You were,
essentially, getting a version of the song twice removed from the source.
The version is here is taken directly from a first-issue original Parlophone
45.
This set also includes the original and much asked about "dry" versions of
"Please Please Me" and "Ask Me Why" as issued on the original pressings of
their second single.
Approximately 20% of the set is sourced from the original issue 45 rpm
records, the rest from an unplayed version of the 1970s boxed set.

A message to grandegi:

I did a quick listen to the various places you mentioned, and didn't notice all those pops you listed. Sure, the vocals are distorted in 'Thank You Girl' and there's a huge drop-out at 1:53 in 'From Me To You', probably due to a bad vinyl source, and the small click in 'I Feel Fine' at 1:56 is pretty obvious, but other than that it's a good transfer (being from singles and all) and overall very good.

Hey man, you just got a fake Dr.ebbetts copy, that's why you must go after the original. I HAVE the original and there's simply NOTHING wrong with it, clear as water, no drop outs or hisses. So, before givig a low grade based on fake copies you guys get, get an original one like I did and do the real thing. 1000+ for the DOC.

Excellent sound quality. Some songs sound even better than on the official CD singles collection. The overall sound is very "warm" but clear.

After getting a flawed (though not fake) copy of this in a trade now I have an original. I can say the transfer is at Ebbett's standards, close to perfect, with just minimal static noise that's pretty undetectable.
On a few tracks the vocals sound distorted (most notably on 'Thank You Girl') and there are a few dropouts (e.g. at the very end of 'From Me To You'), but these flaws belong to the master made for the vinyl.
So I give this a 10 because it's a faithful reproduction of the 45rpm vinyls. And it's great to have the first 2 singles in their glorious original mix.
Nevertheless, about some of the tracks, the official (and exceedingly expensive) "CD Singles Collection" stands as the best.
I'm happy I own both of them.

Here you get some of the best sounding versions of these songs you'll ever hear on CD. All are the original mono mixes. This disc makes the "Past Masters" disc sound like the joke that it is. My only problem with this disc is that "She Loves You" sounds almost the same as on "Past Masters Vol.1" since you can still hear all the edits. But if you get the doc's "UK EP collection" discs, it sounds better on there, but the EP version is not from the master, but a tape copy, and has a bit more compression.
So with those two sets, you have better sounding versions (and proper mixes as well) of everything on "Past Masters" except "Across The Universe" and the german versions of "I Want To Hold Your Hand"/"She Loves You". Not Bad Doc! Would have been neat if the german single was included as a bonus track.

Essential for the first four tracks, which appear in inferior sound on the offical box (for 'love me do' emi even incorrectly used the Andy White version).
That being said, the rest of it does not sound better than the official box, although I'll admit it's a matter of what you prefer as the sonic differences are not that big.

The dess collection tends to be brighter than the EMI box, sometimes by a small margin, sometimes a lot.
A few tracks (like 'Ticket to ride' for example) sound less good on this collection compared to the box, as the hi-end does not as defined and clear.

All in all, this is an important release (even though unofficial) and -like I said- essential for Beatles fans.
