1.
Love Me Do(Lennon/McCartney)
1:46
Song
Radio
BBC
22 Jan 1963
The Beatles
Recorded: Playhouse Theatre, London, 22 January, 1963. For the opening track of this splendid compilation of rare and unreleased Beatles material, we chose a long-forgotten live-in-the-studio version of the Mop Tops' first hit, last heard on the BBC Saturday Club programme for which it was originally recorded, over 37 years ago!
2.
Well, Darling(Lennon/McCartney)
1:57
Song
Pre-Beatles
May 1960
The Beatles
Recorded: Liverpool, May 1960. No ANTHOLOGY-Set without some more tracks from the legendary "Quarrymen" rehearsals, held in the McCartney-house at 40 Forthlin road, Allerton, Liverpool in spring 1960 (and again, from a better source-tape!)
Yes, it's Stuart Sutcliffe, who is plonking happily away on his newly-bought bass guitar on the first of these three numbers, actually more of a "jam" than a "song".
3.
The One After 909(Lennon/McCartney)
2:26
Song
Pre-Beatles
May 1960
THE ONE AFTER 909 can be heard twice on the "Quarrymen" tape. You probably know the acoustic version on ANTHOLOGY PLUS. Now, this is the electric One!
4.
You Must Write Every Day(Lennon/McCartney)
2:31
Song
Pre-Beatles
May 1960
YOU MUST WRITE ME EVERYDAY, the third song featured here, is an early McCartney-"Oeuvre".
5.
September In The Rain(Warren/Dubin)
1:57
Song

Lyrics available
Decca Audition
1 Jan 1962
SS.DEC.13.01
The Beatles
Recorded: Decca Studios, London, 1 January 1962. ...and one more song from the infamous Decca-audition, a 1961 US-hit for ballad-singer Dinah Washington, crooned here by Paul, but to no avail...
6.
Do You Want To Know A Secret(Lennon/McCartney)
2;04
Song
Take 7
11 Feb 1963
The Beatles
Recorded: EMI Studios, London, 11 February 1963. From the 11-hour-marathon-session that produced the first BEATLES-album comes this 'clean' mix of DO YOU WANT TO KNOW... Take 7. There are backing-volcals throughout, a clean intro and no fade-out.
7.
P.S. I Love You(Lennon/McCartney)
2:00
Song
Radio
BBC
17 Jun 1963
The Beatles
Recorded: Maida Vale BBC Studio, London, 17 June 1963. A sweet version of this b-side to PLEASE PLEASE ME, recorded for and aired exclusively by the BBC on 25 June 1963, on the 4th edition of the groups' own POP GO THE BEATLES programme.
8.
It Won't Be Long(Lennon/McCartney)

2:14
Song
Take 2
29 Jan 1964
The Beatles
Recorded: Pathe Marconi Studios, Paris, 29 January, 1964. You've heard a heavily edited version of this take 2 in mono on ANTHOLOGY 1. Now you'll hear it again - ony this time unedited and in STEREO!.

13.
If I Fell(Lennon/McCartney)
1:17
Song
Demo
1964
The Beatles
Recorded: John's home, London, early 1964. An excerpt from a composing-tape made by John on a cassette-recorder (hence the sound). But it is a charming nontheless to hera him play an accoustic version of one of his most beautifull ballads.
14.
If I Fell(Lennon/McCartney)
2:07
Song
Radio
BBC
14 Jul 1964
The Beatles
Recorded: BBC Broadcasting House, London, 14 July, 1964. ...and the Beatles treated it very well, as you can hear by listening to another unreleased "radio-only" performance. This time for the BBC TOP GEAR programme, broadcast on 16 July 1964.
15.
I'm A Loser(Lennon/McCartney)
2:36
Song
Take 3
14 Aug 1964
The Beatles
Recorded: EMI Studios, London, 14 August, 1964. With these two songs, we find ourselves in the midst of a busy day during BEATLES FOR SALE LP-sessions. We are hearing a not-yet fully-realised take 3 of I'M A LOSER and a first go at MR. MOONLIGHT. Yes, the same version can be found on ANTHOLOGY 1 but here it is in STEREO and the sound is superior!
16.
Mr. Moonlight(Johnson)
2:33
Song
Take 1
14 Aug 1964

What You're Doing(Lennon/McCartney)
2:04
Song
Take 11
30 Sep 1964
The Beatles
Recorded: EMI Studios, London, 30 September 1964. Another Outtake from the BEATLES FOR SALE sessions, this is take 11, a very different arrangement with more emphasis on George's guitar-riff and interesting vocal-harmonies. (This song was clearly an influence on the Byrds' version of MR. TAMBOURINE MAN!)
18.
That Means A Lot(Lennon/McCartney)
2:34
Song
Take 1
20 Feb 1965
The Beatles
Recorded: EMI Studios, London, 20 February (18) & 30 March, 1965 (19). ...and there were times when even the Beatles got lost! This song never really made it, depite a not-so-bad take 1 (once again presented here in STEREO and in better sound-quality than on ANTHOLOGY 1!).
But over one month later the Beatles, not satisfied, got back to this song and thing got even worse! And, although there wer some good ideas, they gave up on it soon afterwards and gave the track to P.J. Proby. (The very last take (22) is on ANTHOLOGY PLUS!)
19.

Nothing really new ... but an interesting Bootleg anyway!
Review by: Claude Defer, cdefer@voila.frOn 20 Mar 2001

I agree with the first person, there is really NOTHING new here. However, it is made to look like a genuine extension of the Anthology series (booklet, song choices, etc) and it is like owning a "best of the Artifacts boxsets" double disc. If you are interested and haven't heard some of these songs before (a beginner) buy this....
