Take 2 was mixed into mono (RM1) on 30 Nov 1965.
This version is in much superior quality than Take 2 w/o mixing.
Three different versions appeared on bootlegs.

+ The first lasts more than six minutes.
+ The second fades out around the 3:50 mark.
+ The third one was found in John Barrett's private collection (not to be confused with the Barrett Mix !). It is not clear for now if this version is another mono mix or the same RM1 but it is presented by Vigotone as a 1965 mono mix and according to Lewisohn, 12-Bar Original was mixed into mono on 30 Nov 1965 between 4.45 PM and 5.00 PM ! This means it was mixed in 15 minutes ! Therefore, it's dubious they had the time to mix it twice, so, for now, this "Barrett" version is considered as RM1. The sound quality, however, is superior to the other versions of RM1.

A nice compilation of "Rubber Soul" era tracks. Nothing new, but only best sources were used. Sound quality is great.

I dunno...nice sound and a good collection and supposedly all Rubber Soul era recordings are here. But there's nothing new here, and you tend to get bored after one listening. You're better off listening to the official release or Anthology 2 or other bootlegs where only a few cuts are included(all you really need anyway). Is it worth the $50 I foolished forked over for this set? Nope...gotta resell at a discount now. Bloody hell!

Didn't want to rate this, I just wanted to reply to a tiny little mistake from Mr Sebek down there: Ringo played the Hammond organ on "Looking Through You", not Paul !

Disc 1 is pretty groovy. Paul's hurried version of "We Can Work It Out" was his best take on this masterpiece. Lennon's spaced takes on "Norewegian Wood" really set the mood for what this song was supposedly about. But best yet, is Paul's gem "I'm Looking Through You". The first version of that appears on this recording (and was also featured on Antholog 2 but without as much soul) is the best. Why the Fab Four didn't put this on the Capital Release is bewildering. George's crazed guitar, Paul on Hammond Organ, and Starr handling peculiar rythems are the Beats at their best. This is the mop top at their top.

An excellent overview of the RS sessions compiling all the best available ROIO tracks from the making of this album...and more. The demos that start CD1 are a revelation and the work-in progress of WCWIO & DT are fantastic. I'd recommend this (& a few other similar Silent Sea album-thematic sets) to anyone who has finished all 7 volumes of Unsurpassed Masters as their next step!

The whole set (meaning two discs) had a somewhat lower thrill ratio than I was expecting. Much of the best stuff, like the earlier, unplugged versions of "I'm Looking Through You" and "It's Only Love," surfaced on the Anthology set or on other miscellaneous bootlegs. The endless rehashes of "12-Bar Original" are nothing to write home about--even the BEST take was nothing to write home about. But I'll confess to being a complete sucker for the "Think For Yourself" overdub sessions. Evidently George Martin taped the whole thing--complete with jokes, chatter, and blown harmonies--because he needed some material for the upcoming XMas flexidisk. But it's tremendous fun. And when they finally get the chorus right, you can hear the Fab Four magic materializing in front of your eyes (or ears). Re: the second disc, the UK mono mixes of the entire album (that's what they are, right?) didn't rock my world. For completists, it might be a necessity.
