Comments "The ultimate Beatles Rarities 1967-70" "23 rare or never before published tracks. See booklet for details." "P + C 1994 ROBBER SOUL-RECORDS, 69 Abbey Road, London W 1 315 A" "CD compiled by Julia Taxman"
The CD itself has the Parlophone label and 2 apples on it. Also : "The essential Collection Vol. 1"

Sounds like the TV version. | | 2. | | 4:02 | | "Live on TV 12/11/68"

| | 5. | | 2:55 | | Listed as an "early mix" but really an Outfake. It is in fact the LP version, -180 degrees out of phase.

Lyrics are just like the CV version (not the CHILD OF NATURE lyrics) | | 9. | | 3:46 | | This is a real medley because it goes from "Mucho Mongo" to "Mount Elgar" and then goes back to "Mucho Mongo" and then back to "Mount Elgar". | |   | | 1:45 | | Liner notes: "Unreleased songs recorded 1969, arrangements by John & Harry Nilson".
This was never recorded in 1969.

 | "John's version of the Jimmy Cliff-classic, recorded in 1970 with Ringo on drums".
This was recorded for Nilsson "Pussy Cats". Ringo is on drums but it was certainly not recorded in 1970. A probable year is 1974.
This version is not like the home recordings found on the LLT. It's either an alternate take or the regular take. | | 11. | | 7:58 | | "Early studio live take, John Solo"
This one beats the official version by far. | | 12. | | 3:13 | | "Cover version of the Dylan classic, arranged by John, Ringo on drums".
Recorded for Nilsson's 1974 LP "Pussy Cats". Ringo on drums.
Not bootlegged anywhere else. | | 13. | | 3:01 |
 | "Completely different version from 1969"
They seem to have a real good time (they laugh while playing). | | 14. | | 2:17 |
 | "Rare version sung in German and French"
Not so rare version in fact (many many times bootlegged). German can be heard clearly (even though they make mistakes) but I don't hear a single word of French here. | | 15. | | 1:52 |
 | "Unreleased song from the "Get Back" sessions".
| | 16. | | 0:54 |
 | Liner notes: "From an early acetate of "Get Back", nowhere else available".
Remixed by Glyn Johns for the first version of the "Get Back" LP. | | 17. | | 3:39 | | "Alternative version, John & Paul singing vocal harmonies" | | 18. | | 3:52 | | "Different, slow blues-version, feat. John on the majority of the vocal parts"
Not so different. | | 19. | | 0:42 |
 | Liner notes: "Get Back Session, jam featuring uncredited guests".
There is nothing like "uncredited guests".
This version was included by Glyn Johns on the "Get Back" LP. The "Don't Let Me Down" part has been edited out by the bootlegger. | | 20. | | 2:42 | | "Never before released, totally different outtake version" | | 21. | | 3:13 | | "Different, sleepy a-capella-version". | | 22. | | Dig It | (Lennon/McCartney/Harrison/Starkey) |

This is an edit of the 7-8 minutes long version. | | 23. | | 4:00 | | "Early version in a gospel-mood"
| | 24. | | 2:12 |
 | A SURPRISE ! NOT IN BOOKLET !
Paul repeats lyrics 4-5 times (sometimes in a different order). Features drums by Ringo, slide guitar by John and acoustic guitar (and vocals) by Paul. George is not participating. |

Reviews| Review by: François Vander Linden, tilleul@compuserve.com | On 8 Jun 1999 | | This CD features many songs already bootlegged elsewhere or songs that are not that different from the CV.
The Bus is a piece of unstructured music sounding a bit like some tunes on some versions of Strawberry Fields. Strawberry Fields is take 1 and is beautiful as always. This is my preferred version. Found on many boots and Anthology 2. Jealous Guy is deceiving because it sounds very much like the CV. Mucho Mongo/Mount Elgar was for a 1974 Nilsson Album. I doubt that this version dates from 1969. The song sounds like a Salsa/Rhumba/Tchic-a-tchic-a style song. I think it's forgetable even though I do not regret to own that song. Many Rivers to cross sounds a bit like #9 DREAM !! I like it because John voice is different. A great song. How do you sleep is one of these lenghty outtakes John recorded with George. Different from the CV. Subterrean homesick blues is the cover of this excellent Dylan song. This version is more rock n roll than Dylan's. It is not bootlegged elsewhere ! The Walk is boring as Paul repeats always the same lyrics. Don't Let Me Down is just slower but sounds very like the CV (some lyrics different though). Save The Last Dance For Me is another Get Back performance and souds like these. It is very short. Bootlegged many times. Dig It is an edit of the super length version (bootlegged on Ultra Rare Trax 6). Let It Be is completely different (instruments and vocals). Her Majesty is the good surprise of this disc. Too bad the rest of the CD is not like this surprise.
Final Review: This CD has too many already bootlegged songs. On the other hand, the other songs are rather rare but there are only 4: Mucho mongo, Many rivers to cross, Subterrean homesick blues (very rare !) and Her Majesty. Buy it only if you're a beginner collector. |
| Review by: Brian McConnell, doctorphibes@home.com | On 07 Nov 1999 | | Well, the first thing you'll notice about this CD. is the overall great sound quality. Upon closer inspection you will notice that you've either heard these tracks elsewhere ("Magical Mystery Tour" Movie) or some of them are not performed by The Beatles ("Subterranean Homesick Blues"). Very typical bootleg fashion. I wouldn't recommend buying this disc, but if you know someone who owns it already, definately give it a listen. Overall, it's a nice collection with great sound quality, but in light of the Anthology releases, this seems unneccesary. |
| Review by: Oscar Gallo Montes, racso_jhon@nazcanet.com | On 05 Dec 1999 | | This album is one of the best by The Beatles. It has songs not found on any other CD.
este album es uno de los mejores que he escuchado de los beatles sobre todo por que tiene canciones que no se encuentran en otros cd |
| Review by: Vitor Suman, v.suman@bol.com.br | On 9 Jul 2000 | | | Well, it's a good bootleg by the Beatles. It lost the importance after some tracks being officially released on The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus & Anthology II or III (1995, 1996). The title says "...1967-70", but the album had some tracks from 1966, what just make it more enjoyble. The "Get Back" version on this CD as known as "Geh' Raus", the songs 8 to 12 are John solo, some of them with George or/and Ringo's participation, the track "Her Majesty" is a bonus, 'cause in the booklet doesn't appear her name. It's a 'volume two' album, the first is called "The Beatles Sweetest Apples 1966-69" (wait it, soon). Maybe some dates are wrong, and note that John's solo songs only have the year of recording. But it's still a very good album, if you see one of this albums, buy it. |
| Review by: Gary, gbeegle@frontiernet.net | On 25 Aug 2000 | | | This is a CD that I am having a hard time deciding how to rate it.First of all, there are three songs that aren't Beatles tracks or even Lennon tracks.I looked at Francois' review above, with the comment that he likes "Many Rivers to cross" because John's voice is really different.Well,it should be because it isn't John's voice,it is Harry Nillsons."Many rivers to cross";"Mucho Mungo/Mt Elgar": & "Subterranean Homesick Blues" all are preformed by Harry Nilsson on this CD.These are a few of the songs John produced for Harry's "Pussycats" album back in 1974 during his "lost weekend".These songs were produced by John but are sung by Harry on this CD.That is the only connection these three songs have to John and there is no Beatles connection at all. That's not to say they aren't great songs, they just aren't sung by John as the liner notes lead you to believe. There are demo versions of "Mucho Mungo/Mt elgar" as well as "many Rivers to cross" out there on other bootlegs, which are pref!ormed by John, but these aren't them. The song "Dig it" is just an edit of the 8 minute version, which you can find complete on "Celluloid Rock".There are some other songs here that can also be found on that CD,as well as on anthology.O.K.,now to a few things I do like about this CD."Lady Madonna" is nice.I like "yer Blues" which is from the Rolling Stones Rock n' Roll circus. You can find it on the official release also, but It is a great version so I like it anyway.I like "Two of Us",it sounds like the "let it Be" movie version. The "strawberry fields" songs have appeared on many, many bootlegs, but are always nice anyway.I like the german version of "get Back',but it too isn't rare. The one thing,as stated above, and not listed in the booklet, that is worth the price of this disc is "Her Majesty" at the end.It is a little over 2 minutes long and if you collect anything from Abby Road, you will want this CD for that song.I don't think it appears anywhere else, not even on "The Last Year" double set.So how do I rate this one? That is a tough question.I think if you are just starting out collecting bootlegs, this is a good starting point. If you have been collecting for awhile, you probably already have most of this stuff. So I think a good rating for this one would be a 5,since it isn't essential to have this one unless you need to have "Her Majesty",and in my view any "Abby Road" fan does need to have it.At least I do! |
| Review by: Vitor Suman, v.suman@terra.com.br | On 15 Mar 2001 | | | OK. This CD is good. The Don't Let Me Down version on this is now (2000) released on the Thirty Days Vol.5 and is listed as NEW!!!, but this proves that it's not so new. Only that on this CD there is a verse missing. But still a good CD. The first of my collection. |
| Review by: Attila Varsányi, varsanyi@mail.hodtav.hu | On 03 Apr 2001 | | | A great bootleg, with very good songs by John, but the Beatles-songs are available already in other boots. In Hungary you can't find too many Beatle-bootlegs (except the well-known Yellow Dog-discs), it's a sensation that i've got The Sweetest Apples... |
| Review by: Kevin Lee, cavein@hotmail.com | On 08 Nov 2001 | | | Some nice stuff on here but the Harry Nillson stuff is much better presented on his own 'PUSSYCATS' album, since rereleased on CD in the last few years. Perhaps someone has the Pussycats sessions somewhere ready to be bootlegged. John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Keith Moon and Harry and the infamous Brandy Alexanders. Those must have been some wild sessions. Too bad noone bootlegged John's performance while heckling the Smothers Brothers from the same era. |
| Review by: Coverdale | On 07 Dec 2002 at 20:47 CET | | | Good CD of The Beatles 1967-1970 Rarities with super versions od HER MAJESTY and LET IT BE.This songs is my favourite. |
| Review by: Signore | On 01 Sep 2007 at 19:37 CET | | | Excellent bootleg from Beatles. Strawberry Fields Forever take one is very nice and let it be is good too.. |
| Review by: Teran | On 02 Sep 2007 at 01:59 CET | | | Please, the Many Rivers to Cross version of this album "is not performed by John Lennon, but for Harry Nilsson". Is the same regular version of the Nilsson's Pussy Cats album. John only perform a demo version of this song (in embryonic format) in the Lost Lennon Tapes radio series. It lost the importance after some tracks being officially released on The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus & Anthology II or III. Thanks. Cláudio Teran... |
| Review by: scarperguy | On 14 Feb 2008 at 22:27 CET | | | Some of these sound just like slowed down versions of their originals, such as Two of Us or Lady Madonna |
| Review by: Pattie | On 22 Jul 2008 at 23:28 CET | | | Not bad at all. Excellent overall sound quality. Nice that they threw on the extended "Her Majesty" from the sessions. |
