In late-May 1968 (the exact date not known) the Beatles came together at 'Kinfauns', George Harrison's home in Esher. One by one, first John, then George, then Paul, they recorded 23 of their newest compositions by double-tracking themselves on George's Reel-to-Reel-tape-machine.
These songs, most of whom were written during the Beatles' two-month-stay on a meditation-course in Rishikesh, India, February-April, 1968, were subsequently recorded for the 'White Album'. But not all of them made it onto vinyl and thus remain unreleased (at least as Beatles'versions).
Judging by the outcome of this session, it must have been a very sunny and relaxing day. Spring certainly was in the air (and a bit of pot maybe too).
Just accompanied by their acoustic guitars John, Paul and George recorded very charming and joyful early versions of their newest tunes.
Sometimes slightly out-of-sync with their own double-tracking but who cares?
Spontanity counts!
Had this session been recorded 25 years later it would have been a bonafide MTV-Unplugged performance!
But as it is, this 1968 session remained in the vaults until now!

We proudly present this tape to you in the correct running order and in the best possible sound (two generations away from the acutal master-tape).
Enjoy!
The short acoustic bit of "Helter Skelter" was recorded on 11th June, 1968 at Abbey Road studios.
The last two tracks were recorded in India.
The light atmosphere of these musical snippets set the tone for the "Kinfauns"-session.

(The above are the liner notes for this CD. "Child of Nature" is listed as appearing twice but it actually appears only once).

Here are all the Esher demos presented on one CD (as well as bonus tracks).

If you don't have any of these, you really should get this bootleg ASAP.

This is the long awaited White Album Unplugged that is rumoured to be released one day (but when ?).

I don't think there is any junk track here. It is really really enjoyable. The Beatles are playing in front of you. In your room.

The Esher tracks are always great, but this release has since been surpassed by Disc One of "From Kinfauns to Chaos" in sound quality and completeness. The "bonus" track of the India jam is badly edited, and my SILVER copy (and I bought this back in '96 before the CDR craze) had a skip in "Bungalow Bill". If you're going to have the Esher tracks, skip this mess and get the "From Kinfauns..." disc, and add it to the demos you already have on "Anthology 3". If you must get a second source for the Esher tapes, you may want "The 1968 Demos", which is not as complete as "From...", but has some nice solo Lennon demos as a bonus.

from a historical perspective this recording is interesting to listen to. from a musical sense its so laid back that john's voice is always in falsetto and after a while gets old. I think macca's songs are performed with genuine guitar playing and is therefore cool to listen to rather than john just strumming through his tunes. george's tunes are nice enough.
