The two Hamburg Performances of A Taste Of Honey feature many resemblances yet they are completely different.
They both feature one of the boys (John ? Ringo ?) singing "Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Baaa" before the song.
They both feature private jokes by the Beatles or the audience during the song and at one time (on the unedited version) this makes Paul laughing while singing.
However, the two versions are completely different because one of these has an extra verse that is unique on all the survived versions of the song.

This version is in fact an edit of two (or more ?) versions.
The spoken introduction by Paul is completely different than on the unedited version although some parts are common to both versions.
Probably w/o extra verse

Review by: paul c., jpnoey@mtaonline.netOn 09 Jan 2001
This LP is fascinating only because it gives one a pretty clear idea of what the tapes sounded like before Lingasong sank all that money into "restoring" them. Also of interest is the between-song-banter, much of which never made it to the "official" releases. The sound quality is horrid, but its well worth a listen, if only once....

Pretty interesting but horrible (as to be expected) quality. Important though as it's the only un-edited 'Star Club' gig we have.

And to add a point to the post above, I got my scan from here and it worked fine! The whole things there, I just checked!

As for the disc itself... I have about 3 or 4 different versions of the infamous "Hamburg Tapes": 1ST RECORDINGS: LIVE AT THE STAR CLUB (Pickwick), EARLY YEARS VOL. 1 & 2, Rare Beatles (both Phoenix), Birth of The Beatles (Valentine), etc. almost all of them are on vinyl except for one which I have on CD released by KTEL in the mid-80's: LIVE IN HAMBURG '62 (#1473), great cover on that one, the guys pulling Ringo by the arms. The Monkees actually recreated this photo of the boys pulling Peter away from a radio station in the same manner (found on the back of the Rhino Monkees picture disc 12")... Anyhow...
I really cannot find ANY differences in those recordings and the ones here on this cd-r. The cassette tape used by Ted Taylor back in August 1962 must have been the worst quality ever known to German men! Even the so-called remixing and clean-up process in 1977 through 1980 by one,
JIM ZIPF, didn't do a thing to cover up the tape surface noise or bring up the vocals.
However, the packaging of this compilation is funny as all heck and wonderful!
Hey, has anyone posted scans of THE BEATLES VS. THE FOUR SEASONS on Vee Jay and the infamous THE BEATLES VS. DON HO
boots?

Scan actually DID work!
