Crappy sound, somewhat interesting performances... Definitely toward the bottom of my Stones list.

Hard to believe anyone would classify excellent studio
stereo and excellent overdubbed soundboard stereo
tracks as "crappy sound". Just listened to this
wondering what part of the CD's tracks are "crappy
sound". Didn't find any. Maybe the "gatoshoes" is
reviewing a CDR copy or has an interesting sound system.
Or both.

There is only one (1) exe. studio stereo track on this CD. Shine a Light (which I have been told was lifted off a legit (MFSL) out of print release).

The rest of this disc is has many good Exile era tracks that all appear on other discs. So If you have very few discs in the collection, this is an ok place to start. If you have Time Trip 1 & 2, Exile Demos, or any of the other collections, you may already have all that other filler. The live selections are good, and are also from other boots.

So this is a good introduction of prime Stone calssic era. But except for the fist track, it's all rehash. And even the first track is from another source I am told.

I'd like to add my 2-cents here, and hopefully shed some light on this excellent release....

The first track, "Get A Line On You," was originally released as a bonus track on the gold disc reissue of Leon Russell's self-titled first album. That CD is LONG out of print, and it's nice to have that track here. Not sure how many Stones were involved in the recording, but that's DEFINITELY Mick. Nice!

Tracks 2-5 and 7-10 are alternates and demos from "Exile on Main Street." True, some of them have appeared on other CDs, but this is the best they have ever sounded. Some tape hiss, but that won't spoil your enjoyment of these tracks. Wonderful stuff.

Track 6 is the absolutely stunning first version of "Loving Cup." This is in the same incredible quality that it appears on "Time Trip Volume 1." I've heard many unreleased Stones recordings, but this is easily my favorite. Amazing.

The rest of the CD is filled out with tracks from their 1972 tour in Philadelphia and Fort Worth. They are from an excellent soundboard source, and will rock your world. Superb!!

All in all, I think this is an essential disc for Stones fans.
