Nothing here that was not released anywhere.
However, the purpose of this album is to show that George although called "The quiet one" has a real importance in the group.

This is really interesting because you'll hear songs that will never be performed by Paul or John (the Harrison compositions of course will never be performed by Paul or John but I'm talking about the non-Beatles tracks). Their likes are different. George really would like to play a Dylan song (3 songs here were written by Dylan). The fact that Dylan cowritten some songs on ATMP reflects this wish I think.

Also George leads the other to rock'n'roll standards that are more Buddy Holly-like (and not Elvis or Little Richard-like as Paul & John use to sing).

I think that with this album a part of George's personnality is revealed. On the other hand, be warned that these are Get Back Sessions and that quality is not always present ! However, if like me you like this kind of bootleg you won't be disappointed.

Final review: buy it except if you have Get Back Journals.

First, I guess let me say that a number of the songs Harrison had to present in 1969, when this was recorded, should have been in the official LET IT BE album (aka, get back), but were not. Two of his songs were officially released on that LP, FOR YOU BLUE and I ME MINE, while other excellent songs were left off, to appear some months later on his sole 3 LP work of ALL THINGS MUST PASS. Overall, I think this LP is a very interesting piece of musical history, showing not only the musical talents of Harrison, but also showing how the Beatles worked together in the studio. I would say the first half of this disk is more enjoyable than the second half, in that the first half is more songs, while the second half is much more chatting and dialogue. In terms of the musical presence of the other three Beatles, it is not entirely evident whether all four were involved - I would presume Ringo (or Paul) is on drums, but much of the instrumentation is Harrison on guitar, so it is unclear how much the others were involved in these sessions. That said, I like the disk. I also have plans to get the second disck of this series, the acoustic ALL THINGS MUST PASS disk. another interesting item of note is that a good number of the songs are by Bob Dylan, and (whether intentional or not - I would suspect intentional), many of these Harrison songs have a definite sound of being influenced by the BAND, who was working with Dylan during this same time frame on such work as MUSIC FROM BIG PINK, and the BASEMENT TAPES. So, this disk is an interesting piece of history - most of the songs here are by no means finished products, in fact they are clearly still in a state of development, but they are quite nice to listen to. Too bad, looking back 30 years, that these songs did not get a more prominent position in the official LET IT BE LP. As George begins telling John (and Yoko) at the start of the LP, I have a lot of songs I have that I would like to do, I am thinking of a solo LP, I could record and mix the things in a week, and it would still keep the Beatles thing - words to that effect. Too bad that the Beatles as a collective decision did not give a greater prominence to the songs written by George - in particular, I think that the song MY SWEET LORD would have been just beautiful if done by the Beatles, rather than it being a solo Harrison work on his 3 LP set. I guess i have a bias in favor of the Harrison songs, but do like to listen to this disk.

This disc shows the power that Lennon/McCartney had over the other two band members. No matter how outstanding a recording that Let It Be turned out to be, George had more to give than allowed.
Had the Beatles all embraced these songs and applied their one of a kind skill to the production process, This could have been an even greater project than it turned out to be.
A good disc of things to come and thing that would never be. Better than most from this time period as there are alote of junk discs from the Get Back/Let It Be era.
Get it !!!

The "Something" work-in-progress session is the reason why you should put your hands on this one if you don't have the "Day-By-Day" series.
The power of Harrison was in the spirit of his songs, very concentrated on the I and just plain beautiful.
Pity though that Lennon and McCartney didn't regard a bit more on his work. Just the run through of "All Things Must Pass" (track 2) shows how uninterested they were. The backing vocals are lousy and out of tune.
Still a great thing to listen to, even if the "I Me Mine" bit is split by other tracks between them for no apparent reason...

A very nice collection of GH stuff from the GB sessions. Isn't it a pity more of his songs didn't get used for that album?

this cd is worth it alone for the work you get to hear them putting into "something"--george asks paul--but john gives him a lot of help, telling him to put in any word when he gets stuck (like lennon often did on his songs-She's well acquainted With the touch of a velvet hand Like a lizard on a window pane-george talks about the chords and the desending bass line etc--it's really great--he really struggled ( for 6 months you hear him say) to get it right.Lennon later admited he felt bad that they did not let him put more of his songs on beatle records and here he seems to try make up for it helping him the most.
Also you get to hear george say -fuck...

Great collection. I especially like the dialogue of George and John (with Yoko in agreement, and what I think is Billy Preston saying "that's the real thing", correct me if I'm wrong), and to hear George say "fuck" is pretty cool too.
