Mostly boring. some goods moments but I can t believe this is J. Lennon singing sometimes.. on "Don't Be Cruel" for instance.. where was he?
Review by: Tracy Hoffman, anti666luv@aol.comOn 11 Jul 2000
Having heard almost all of the "Get Back" tapes, thru the yellow dog, and sidewalk volumns, I can honestly say, that this album is better than 85% of what is on those other albums. Some of the GET BACK volumns, by Yellow Dog, look at George Harrison's songs, or their rooftop concert, or the famous "Drugs divorce and a Slipping public image" jam, (which is the funniest thing on earth), and of course the original "Get Back" album before it was Spectorized to death. Nevertheless, I have to say, that this CD is closest to a real "Get Back" experience, in a cinematic sense. It is the Beatles learning to love RnR again. As for hi-fidelity, the sound is perfect. This CD has the most realized Beatles' rendition of George's "All Things Must Pass", with the studio chat afterwords retained. The line"Pot Smoking FBI Agents...", and lots of other pieces of the film or "Let It Be" album, are stuck in here. It has Billy Preston jamming great. But what makes the CD essential, is hearing the !lads play "If Tomorrow Ever Comes", and a couple of other songs early songs, along with stabs at "She Said". They swing effortlessly from song, or snippet of song, with ease, wit, and a sort of cut and paste effect. (like a Burroughs novel.) One gets the sense, that they are using the sessions as a scrapbook of their roots. Corny standards are placed next to stunning renditions of their new material. In contrast to the Beatles' often stated "bad-vibes" nature of the sessions, what is most interesting here, is that you get a sense of the Beatles having FUN. For all the misery that they said that they were going thru during this recording the album, you hear so much Monty Python type humor, satire worthy of the best Zappa, and a crazed kalidascopic view of their own recorded past. Plus, this record has no Yoko. (I"m not saying that is bad, but if you dont want to hear her scream, or make comments, you'll be happy.) In a way, this is more like an expressionistic montage of !their collective musical conscience, of what it was, that made them the Beatles. They shared an incredible amount of mutual musical common ground. And it was that "Rock and Roll", that pop musical language they all shared, that let them keep a collective vision, while one guy played Sitar and went on mystical quests, one guy wrote classical peices along with dancehall music, one guy did avant-guarde soundscapes, and surreal pop and political anthems, and one guy liked country and western music, and kid's songs. But it is what you can hear here, that shows them connected, and exploring their roots, to find the common ground, and their first love, that made them hook up with each other in the first place. And it worked. And it enabled them, to start on "Abbey Road", most of which was played in the "Get Back" tapes, as well as the songs that went on their first, and best, solo albums. I highly recommend this CD, as a view into the core of the Apple. It's a tasty little "Apple" at that.

Sounds at best like a bad garage band learning to play. The Beatles show no respect to the music or themselves. Sloppy is an understatement.
