In conjunction with innerwreckdom's fantastic spectral stereo mixes/recompiling of all available Nagra tapes (some bits were overlooked for Purple Chick's A/B Road mono set back in 2004), I've decided to share my partial transcripts from the January 1969 sessions on this board.

I did them in the late 1990s, before A/B Road, before torrents, before Bootleg Zone. As a result, there's plenty of stuff is missing but maybe we can get the ball rolling, and end up with a complete transcript.

Mr. Bump has kindly undertaken to update and fill in the blanks in the 2 January 1969 transcript. If someone else wants to have a go at another January day, please let me know!

Twickenham rehearsals

Thursday 2 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020) (Mr. Bump is in the process of updating this one)
Friday 3 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Monday 6 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Tuesday 7 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Wednesday 8 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Thursday 9 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Friday 10 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Monday 13 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Tuesday 14 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)

Apple sessions

Tuesday 21 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Wednesday 22 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Thursday 23 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Friday 24 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Saturday 25 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Sunday 26 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Monday 27 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Tuesday 28 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Wednesday 29 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Thursday 30 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)
Friday 31 January 1969 (latest version: 4 May 2020)

A quick guide:
To differentiate the various people speaking, I used the following colour code: John is in dark blue, Paul in light blue, George in pink, Ringo in red, and everyone else in green. When I came back to the transcript, in early 2000, I decided to preface these with the name of each speaker (e.g., "Yoko: Mind if I scream John's name for five minutes straight?") but lost interest about three minutes in.

Items are bunched together according to the uninterrupted segment of tape that was available at the time. A series of hyphens -------- generally denotes a break in the available tape when I knew that a more complete tape had surfaced since I'd transcribed the various fragments.

At times, I went back and forth to try and transcribe everything I heard. Other times, I did the transcript on the fly, so bits are missing because I couldn't, and still can't, type that fast. "[ ? ]" (or, sometimes, an asterisk) denotes something unintelligible (to me), or something which I didn't catch in its entirety.

A clapperboard symbol indicates that part, or all, of a dialogue or a performance was used in the 'Let It Be' film (I don't think I used them for the new footage seen in 'The Beatles Anthology').

I think this is a good starting point. If some of you want to contribute to this transcript, as a free resource for Beatles scholars, I think it'd be best if you said which parts you were tackling, so that two people don't (re)transcribe the same bits at the same time.

Wow beatlesondvd,
I don't know how to thank you for this pharaonic work
It is very important for me to have a written transcription of the dialogues. I am not an English speaker (but French). Difficult for me to understand everything ...
I just have to translate your texts and I will have many answers on what our dear beatles could say. :good: :good:

Thanks again for the work and sharing

thanks also to Mr Bump

Good idea to start a thread on this.

The way I'm working Jan 2nd, I am using the New Blue Soap track titles exactly as they appear, and putting the contents under each one - for example (made up example:

015 Don't Let Me Down 2.25

Paul: xxxx
John xxxx

016 Don't Let Me Down 2.26

Paul: xxxx
John: xxxxx
Ringo: xxxx

C'est probablement à cause des Beatles que je suis devenu traducteur :°)

This is fantastic! Thank you so much! Every couple of years I have had the urge to transcribe the sessions, but it's such a daunting task, I get about 10 minutes in and start crying. So thank you for this. If I can help fill gaps I will.

It's going slowly and it's not the most enjoyable job I've ever undertaken. I am working my regular job full-time, so doing bits of transcribing in the evenings - I am about three quarters through January 2nd and hope to have that day finished this weekend. It's accurate, but time-consuming as a result.

Not sure I could face more of these! Let's see how I feel one this one is complete.

Great, thanks for your efforts! On a related note, when I was re-reading some of the 8 January transcript this morning, I noticed it misses about everything that surfaced after 1998.

This is quite an undertaking. I take my hat off to you.

On a constructive note, if I may, it would read better if each comment was on a separate line.

I'm pretty much re-doing it, since the missing bits in BeatlesonDVD's original texts are more fiddly to edit and correct, than just to re-type the whole lines. I'm very grateful he's typed out all the lyrics they sing though! Saved a LOT of time for me!

I am also abandoning the colour scheme - no disrespect meant, but I agree it's an easier read just with a new line for each new speaker.

I'll upload my version soon and people can give their thoughts.

Of course, you know this means war! (Looking forward to reading your version.)

Amazing work! It's great!
I'm a spanish speaker so I can't understand some words (I mean, while I'm hearing them), this transcripts are great.
Thank you so much!

I challenge anybody to transcribe "152) Dialogue (14:19)" from January 8th. There are at points multiple conversations happening simultaneously. Other than that, that particular day may not be too hard.

I had a go at it as well, in the late 1990s, back when we only had bits of that segment.

Believe it or not Apple apparently claims copyright on the talking and text of the talking. They would not even let Mark Lewisohn play or quote most of the "board room" tape.

I think you're right on that. I think it was Doug Sulpy was stopped from publishing some of the Get Back dialogue at one stage. I'm not sure how legitimate Apple's claim really is, though.
